Exterior Wood Finishes
You appreciate the warm tones of your wood and want to make it beautiful. We created this guide to show you the steps to proper wood care and the benefits our experience will give to you.
Wood Decks, Fences and Siding
Staining exterior wood involves two steps, the first of which is all too often ignored.
- Clean the wood. Most new wood has “mill glaze,” a condition created in the milling process which causes liquids to bead rather than soak in. New wood gets dirty very easily. Applying a commercial wood brightener and pressure-washing will give the best results.
- Choose a coating. Think about the look you would like to achieve – would you like your wood to gray naturally, to maintain it’s natural color or to be enhanced with color? Solid color stain hides imperfections and gives maximum UV protection, semi-transparent allows wood grain and texture to show through, adds subtle color and outlasts wood-toned natural finishes.
For a more sophisticated approach, use a combination of colors to create a complementary or contrasting design. FADED COMPOSITE DECK? If you desire a completely new look for your composite deck or want to coordinate your deck with your house, solid color stain are the perfect choice.
